The Slightly Technical ToneXamplifier captures are tone models of amps that are unique in manyways. Some are from my personal collection, while others belong to myfriends or clients. All the amplifiers have been modified or tweakedby me to achieve unique tonal qualities. These tone models are directinput (DI) captures of amps and are intended to be used with variousIRs. The profiles available are just examples of how the tone can bedesigned, but I strongly advise exploring the raw Tone Models anddesigning your own unique presets.
This is free profile from a rather special pack, sampled from a very unique amplifier. The amp in question is a horizontal-input Marshall JCM 800 2204, specially modified by a tech using an unconventional method. It retains the stock JCM 800 power section but features extensive modifications to the preamp.
What makes this mod truly unique is the absence of a cathode follower— instead, it has been reworked into an additional common cathode gain stage. The gain staging is structured differently from what you’d typically expect in a Marshall, transforming this amplifier into an absolute gain beast. Its sole mission? To melt faces with bold, heavy rock tones.
Special thanks to Boban of Ritam Nereda for lending me this amplifier for a check-up and sampling.
Thisis a rather simple amplifier. Like a typical JCM 800, it essentiallydelivers one sound—but what a glorious sound it is.
Thispack includes a collection of presets designed for various musicalscenarios, all based on seven different Tone Models that capture theamp at various EQ settings. These EQ settings were carefully selectedas sweet spots for different tonal approaches and cabinet pairings.Additionally, three of the Tone Models incorporate pedals to boostand shape the amp’s sound: a Boss GE-7, a modded J. Rockett Archer, and the SLT Tone Bender MKIII Fuzz for some fuzz-filled extravagance.
