The Slightly Technical ToneX captures are tone models of gear from my personal collection. These amplifiers and pedals are not commercially available and are either original designs, designs inspired by famous units, or uniquely modified pieces of equipment. Each piece of gear was crafted with carefully selected components, meticulously measured, and calibrated to achieve the desired tonal qualities.
This is a collection of Tone Models of my custom-made take on a Fuzz Face circuit. Of course, there are many versions of this circuit—there are the Germanium ones, and there are the Silicon ones—but what sets this one apart is that it is a hybrid circuit. This is a Fuzz Face with one Germanium transistor and one Silicon transistor, which gives it a unique flavor. This circuit was captured very well at various gain stages and offers lush harmonic content for hitting the amp hard.
This collection includes four different Tone Models. Circuits like this are captured using a half-drained 9V carbon-zinc battery, as I feel this gives the pedals their authentic tone. This is a fairly simple pedal with only Volume and Gain controls, so the different Tone Models are modeled after varying levels of gain.
