The Slightly Technical ToneX captures are tone models of gear from my personal collection. These amplifiers and pedals are not commercially available and are either original designs, designs inspired by famous units, or uniquely modified pieces of equipment. Each piece of gear was crafted with carefully selected components, meticulously measured, and calibrated to achieve the desired tonal qualities.
This is a very special circuit. It is a Germanium-based circuit inspired by the Tone Bender MKIII by Sola Sound, specially crafted with carefully selected transistors and precisely biased to achieve the desired harmonic content and compression level. This circuit stands out because it is extremely versatile and features a unique Tone control that allows you to configure the pedal in vastly different ways, with all settings producing great-sounding and highly useful tones. The sound is heavily distorted, compressed, and rich, with the flexibility to set the pedal for vintage "dad rock" scenarios or modern, hard-hitting metal tones.
This collection includes nine different Tone Models. Circuits like this are captured using a half-drained 9V carbon-zinc battery, as I feel this gives the pedals their authentic tone. The MKIIIs are very different circuits from the MKIIs and feature a unique Tone control that offers a wide range, from very dark to extremely bright and thin sounds. The created Tone Models are based on various settings that I consider sweet spots for fine-tuning within the ToneX app. The pedal settings at which each model was captured are detailed in the descriptions of the Tone Models.
